Making the app suitable for Left hand golfer (wearing the watch left handed)

I'm a owner of a Garmin Epix Pro (Gen2) and i realy love it, except...

I used to own a Arccos tracking system, this systems worked great but one big problem was the subscription you needed so my search began.

When i bought the Garmin Epix Pro, i ran towards the golf course and the mood on the course was not great.. the app did not work as aspected.

Arrived at home my search began and quickly i found that you have to wear the watch on your leading arm (in my case right). And i really dont prefer wearing my watch that way.

After some contact with Garmin support that was the only option.. hope that Garmin will improve the app so you can wear it on any pols you want.

I also asked if i bought the CT10 sensors it in that case could wear is left, but that was not the case.

Also the Golf Tempo Training works in reverse when you are a lefthand golfer wearing the watch on the right hand.

i realize that left hand Golfers are in the minority but hoping for the best Garmin wil see us!

  • The lead arm is needed as that picks up the majority of impact when the club face makes contact with the ball at impact, so the watch must be worn on the lead wrist (left arm if right-handed clubs used) (right arm if left-handed clubs are being used). The gyroscope and accelerometer sensors are used to detect the swing movement per the wrist set in the User Profile menu.

Main reason the wrist is specific, is so the watch does not accidentally pick up shots every time the cart hits a bump, or other movements causing shots to become tracked. Use of the CT-10 sensors may help to provide some additional assistance in shot detection if the watch is not worn on the lead wrist...but everything in conjunction is designed to work in the manner of wearing on the lead wrist to provide proper consistency.

Golf tempo training simply uses the timing of your back swing and swing to impact to provide the swing tempo metric. The tempo training app has a colored bar that also displays left to right which backswing on the left side and down swing on the right.

The tempo data displayed in the tempo training app is not specific to left or right handed golfers.

  • Hi Garmin-Cody,

    Thanks for your reply!

In other words Garmin wil not improve the Golf watch application for left hand Golf players?

What about the tempo data were not om the same page, cause it displays back and down.

When you are a left hand Golf player wearing the watch right handed (cause of the leading arm) it displays the swing in reverse. Back swing is down and Down swing is Back. Or am i doing something wrong in this case?

Should i adjust some settings somewhere cause normaly im wearing my watch left (exect when i play Golf, then Garmin forces me to wear it on the right arm.)

  • There is no need for a correction in the Tempo Training app as the swing timing is being recorded based on movement.

The User Profile menu on the watch contains a "Wrist" setting to let the watch system know which arm you are wearing the watch on. If you are using left-handed clubs, make sure the Wrist setting is set to "Right".

The Tempo training app is not biased towards left or right handed golfers, the app is simply detecting the timing of your back and down swing leading up to the detection of the club face hitting the ball.

  • It’s a Fenix 6 / Epix issue. On my 5X and Forerunner 935 I was able to wear on Left wrist as a Left hand player.

I logged a job three years ago and basically Garmin is not going to fix it.
