Golf app showing where I’m at.

I’m using instinc 2 watch and the iOS golf app.

the golf app shows the golf course hole layout, but it’s doesn’t show my location, ability to see the distance to dog leg, hazard, traps etc.

I was using an app call swings, but swingu works with iwatch.

so is there a way for real time (gps) tracking in the golf app.

thanks

  • I’m here to say that I’m having the same issue. The iPhone app seems very useless in this condition. It seems to only allow you to record your stats, which can be done from your watch. At this point I’m really not sure why they have an iOS app.

  • Are you using Golf app on Instinct 2 or on phone? Manual says you download courses to Connect. Then on Instinct select GPS etc

  • I agree, it is totally useless during the game, I use another app to see where I on the course.  When done, it’s nice to see were you hit the ball. It would be much better this was real time.   I like the watch, but function needs work.

  • The Garmin Golf app is not designed to be used as a standalone product, unless you are wanting to keep a basic scorecard during the round. The Instinct is not compatible with pairing directly through the Garmin Golf app, as the instinct 2 requires the golf courses to be downloaded through the Garmin Connect mobile app > The watch then at the course must be synced to the Connect mobile app > All of the golf features are recorded on the watch throughout the round > Then once you have saved and synced your scorecard on the watch...it is then synced through Garmin Connect mobile > Then you can view the scorecard and stats through the Garmin Golf app.

The Golf feature available on certain Instinct 2 models works in the same manner of how Vivo, Venu, ...and other non-preloaded golf course map devices that offer golf features work.

  • I purchase this watch for hiking and golf app, I don’t understand why you say the garmin golf app is a stand along app, no we have the watch, which tells us where we are, so why isn’t it part of Garmin golf. Swingu, 18birdies and golfshot all show where you are on the course,  I would expect garmin golf to be a lot better, that’s why I didn’t by an Apple Watch.  So is there any plans to fix this big short fall?

  • Garmin has other golf watches that are compatible with live scoring in the golf app and other connected features offered through the Garmin Golf app. Golf features will vary depending on the device model purchased...and each series of devices offer a different set of specific features for the outdoor, fitness and wearable devices that offer golf as a secondary simpler feature...like the instinct series.

The instinct series of watches is focused on outdoor activities (like hiking), navigation, and activity tracking with rugged useability...so the golf activity features offered on the Instinct 2 series is simply there to provide distances, shot tracking, and scoring directly on the watch. The golf application simply displays the scorecard, shot detection, stat tracking, and club assignment features recorded on the watch, and the Instinct 2 is not compatible with other golf app connected features like other Garmin golf products have in the Approach series (which is primarily golf-centric in features, and offer less focus on hiking, navigation, and fitness related features).

Currently, the Approach Z30 laser rangefinder is the only device that will pair to the Garmin Golf app to display GPS distance, and course map layout features during golf rounds in the manner you are inquiring about.

All GPS related golf features available from Garmin are designed to be provided through a device, on the device screen during the actual round for map layout and distance features.
