Only "solution" I've seen so far is to have only 5 courses in your downloads and that the one you are playing are one of the 5. Wish Garmin could find a better solution but looks like its…
Iám having the same issue! Very annoying! Whish you could select a course (on your iPhone) from your watch and then download it!
Fix this Garmin!
ryanspa, did you ever resolve this issue?
I have had this issue once or twice too. What I do is confirm download is on my watch before I leave the house and bring my "backup" Garmin s6 watch just in case…
I too have this problem. Managed to get my Vivoactive 4S to find the proper course by the third tee, but I had to restart both phone and watch to make it happen. This should be a very easy fix for Garmin, but I don't expect one anytime soon.
Thanks to whoever pointed out the ‘5 course limit’
I’m a very infrequent player — the last time I played was in 2018. Then in 2019 I wasn’t playing bit added some courses to the list because I was going to be ‘caddying’ (in a loose sense) for a friend. That took it over the limit and the course didn’t show up correctly but as I wasn’t playing I thought no more of it. 2020 came and with the P & emic no golf, so no issue. Finally last Tuesday I went out to play for the first time in >2 years. I downloaded the course to my phone synced my watch and thought ‘all is good. Not so fast - on the 1st tee, ages fiddling with watch, eventually give up so I can actually play (which was great fun, even with no watch).
After we finished we arranged to go back to the same course next week, so I thought — time to look at this. Thanks to the helpful post referenced above I
- deleted ALL the courses downloaded to my phone
-synced the watch to phone
- downloaded the course I am playing again next week
- synced phone again
VIOLA ! - it works — now the course is on my watch —- it seems to ‘download’ it directly to the watch, and I guess this may be where the 5 course limit kicks in.
For shame on Garmin not to be more transparent about this. The Golf experience is a great bonus on the watch. I bought the watch for running, at my standard and infrequency of play a ‘golf watch’ would be complete overkill (I prefer jut to use the wooden markers on the fairway to get distance to green etc. But what the app does brilliantly is record a round. That last one I played in 2018 was a brilliantly memorable round, and I treasure the actual ‘pictures in my head’ memory, - the Garmin log does a super job of enriching them and bringing the whole experience back to life.
So Garmin — if you are reading — please make some kind of advisory about exactly what is the behaviours and user experience for downloading courses to Connect and then to Watch. Even better do as someone already suggests - build the intelligence into the app so it picks up 5 nearest courses from your phone — cannot be that hard to do?
Hi - So just figured out the solution. Basically ignore the Garmin Golf app - not required. Go to your Garmin Connect app - click on the 3 parallel horizontal lines. You will see "Download Golf Courses" as an option. Go to that and you can add/delete courses easily then re-sync to watch.
If you don't see "Download Golf Courses" you may need to play with your settings.
Right, but that doesn’t overcome the five-course limit the Vivoactive 4 seems to place on the number of courses that can be on the watch at once. I have over 30 courses downloaded to Connect, but have no easy way to control which five of those appear on the watch at any one time.
I'm afraid this wasn't the answer for me. I use your method of downloading course on the garmin app on my phone. Worked really well for a while, now not working. None of the course, except my home course are showing. I have deleted every other course in the app.
I'm wondering why Garmin are not reading these problems and offering a solution. There must be one, surely!?!
The 5 courses is a red herring I have found- I have always deleted a course if I am no longer playing it, so only have one course or 2 courses downlaoded at any one time.
The only solution I found was to delete the connect app and reinstall, then sync. That worked for me
I’ve had this problem with Vivoactive HR. The best fix is to sync the watch via the Garmin Connect app. Courses should show up after the sync completes
Still struggling with this nonsense! Today my watch is only showing a course that has closed and that I have deleted. My home course has vanished AGAIN!
In my experience the best way to sort out problems re downloading golf courses is to delete the app on your phone, re install/download. It's a bore as the app then wants you to set up the profile again, but I don't have too much of this anyway. I'm not interested in interactive eating plan etc etc. But this does cure the problem for me, every time.
