Wind data

The wind data only appears to be available when I have a mobile signal.  Why don't you change the code so that it uses the last available data until the cell signal is available again?

  • The wind speed/direction features available on compatible Garmin golf devices is based on weather information that updates every 20 minutes (due to weather changing throughout the day).

The connection to the app is required to pull relevant weather information so the info is accurate for the feature displaying on the watch during the round of golf. This information has to be updated frequently throughout the round, so you must keep a Bluetooth connection to your smartphone with the Garmin Golf app running in the background...this uses cellular data to provide the information from official weather sources.

If the cellular signal is weak or lost when the weather information is needed refreshed and updated to the watch...then it will not update the information consistently throughout the round.

  • My point is that coverage is spotty on most golf courses so update the software so that it uses that last known wind value if it can't connect rather than returning nothing?

  • The wind/speed direction feature has to be receiving the information updated from the smartphone connection to cellular data to provide the info in real time.

Caching the weather data from the last time your phone was connected to cellular is not going to provide accurate and relevant real time information...especially if your phone's connection to cell signal is sporadic and unpredictable where you are golfing at.
