Feature Update Request: Graphics and ball physics

I really enjoy my R10 and use Home Tee Hero a lot for playing courses I know or have heard of. Range sessions are usually with Awesome Golf and I do play some virtual rounds with that software too.

What I notice is that the reaction to spin on approach and short (e.g. chip) shots on Awesome Golf is much more like what I would expect compared to the response within Home Tee Hero. An update here would be a great improvement.

When comparing the graphics of Awesome Golfs' virtual golf, it is miles ahead of Home Tee Hero. And this is before the graphics update for Awesome Golf was released (just a day or so ago).

If Home Tee Heri could be updated to address the spin reaction issue and have graphics approaching even just the older version of Awesome Golf, that would be a fantastic upgrade and make the R10 + Garmin Golf combination unbeatable (IMHO).

I would love to hear what Garmin is planning / doing in this regards. Thanks!

  • Spin has been an issue with Garmin Golf app for a long time, until they introduced the support for RCT balls in release 4.30 for R10.

After which I have seen comparisment with optical based systems, and back spin numbers are more or less identical.

You don't necessarily need to use rct balls, "the metal dot" solution should also work and improve spin readings.

Regarding graphics in HTH that will never be like awesome golf or other dedicated golf simulator programs.

HTH has a library of more than 40.000 courses. E6 I believe has around 100, Awesome Golf 4?, and You can pay 5-10.000 usd for good graphics on some courses in other programs.

There is a good reason the price is low for hth. So basically You have to choose between poor graphics on +40.000 courses or pay a lot more for good graphics on 25-100 courses. I like to play on courses in my area, which will never be available in a commercial golf simulator program.

  • I do use RCT balls and am very happy with them. The reaction to the spin on and around the greens is not as I would expect within Home Tee Hero. Awesome Golf does a far better job here.

Regarding the graphics: I do understand the high value of the 42,000+ courses. But a  relatively minor (and not too complex) improvement in the graphic presentation should not be beyond Garmin. After all, we continue to pay about 100 USD per year and should be able to expect some improvements along the way.

Just my opinion, of course ;)

  • Yes, Garmin could wipe out the whole marked with a good launch monitor to 500 usd and a yearly subscription of 100 usd in addition for 42k courses with ok graphics.

I doubt they will try based on the sw development we see.

  • Oh no! No more new features before the basic App is working again. :-O

  • I think it would make more sense for Garmin to improve the shot readings than to improve the course graphics. In my opinion, the shot readings are very often way off reality. I cancelled my Garmin app subscription because it was too frustrating to use (wrong shot data and the app freezing). Awesome Golf on the other hand is excellent. The numbers are consistently really, really close to reality. Even though they only have 4 courses I much prefer this than playing 40,000 courses where the numbers showing are too often way off.
