My R10 falls asleep often during range sessions. How can I get it to stop going into standby mode while I'm using it?

My R10 falls asleep often during range sessions. How can I get it to stop going into standby mode while I'm using it?

  • Updated 09.08.2022:

I'd mentioned in my original post that the Garmin support rep I'd spoken with indicated this issue was concentrated amongst iPhone users. That appears to be incorrect, as several Android users have since noted that they're experiencing the same issues.

    Original Post 08.12.2022:

I'm having the same issue, and it occurs whether I'm using my R10 indoors, or on a driving range surrounded by empty space. The R10 intermittently fails to track about 10%-20% of shots, and repeatedly goes into standby mode, requiring it to be woken up from the Garmin Golf app. In a 40-minute (outdoor) driving range session yesterday, the R10 arbitrarily went into standby mode at least ten times.

I spoke with Garmin product support the same afternoon and the rep shared that this issue seems to affect only iPhone users, and that it seems to have been triggered by the latest R10 firmware issue. User posts across various forums appear to corroborate this. Get it together, Garmin! I just bought this thing three days ago, and so far it's been nothing more to me than a piece of expensive junk.

  • I think they are wrong.

I'm starting to have the same issue, and I'm on Android and still firmware 4.0

  • Agreed. I'm all Android. It was better today but it still shouldn't happen. I just the Awesome Golf Assistant to connect to my Android tablet.

  • Same thing here.  Brand new & drives me F’n nuts.  I’ll flush a ball look down.  Nothing.  F’n things asleep.  If you don’t conveyer belt hit hit hit hit it goes to sleep. God forbid you get a drink or water or talk to your buddy.   NOPE! To late.  Asleep

  • Same, on android and happened today numerous times at the range.

  • Not exactly worth $600

  • Not with the current firmware, but once fixed it absolutely is.

  • Updated firmware and still having R10 frequently needing to wake up. Very frustrating. Using Android phone, so issue is not iphone related

  • ByPls be aware that there are 2 separate updates.

Not always easy to tell which ones people are talking about, and what version they run.

The R10 unit has a firmware. Latest one is version 4.3

The app (Garmin Golf app), also needs to he on the latest version which currently is 2.10

The R10 unit can only be updated using a cable to a pc and the garmin express program.

The Garmin Golf app will normally auto update if You have allowed it.

Android tablets will not auto update.
