Unable to grant location permission on Android 9

I am trying to get Find my Garmin to work with my new Approach Z82 but there seems to be no way to grant location permissions in a way that Garmin Golf is happy. Could it be because I'm on an old Android 9 phone? So the app tells me I need to grant location permission and provides a button to access the app's permissions page in Android. I open it and enable app permissions to Garmin Golf for Calender, Call logs, Camera, Contacts, Location, Phone, SMS, and Storage. Yet, when I go back to Garmin Golf it still tells me I need to enable location permissions. It doesn't help restarting the phone. I've also added all the same permissions to Garmin Connect, it changes nothing. Is this is known bug?

Thanks

  • Here are two screenshots from the phone, the first one asking me to enable location permissions, and the second one showing how I have already done that.

  • I believe this to be Your location setting on the phone itself is turned off.

Garmin will ask for locstion (when permission is enabled), but this will not help if Your phone location setting is disabled.

    Google location on android 9

  • Well, I mean, location is turned on as best I can tell. I'm using the GPS with Google Maps, and I've got Improved location turned on using wifi and bluetooth. I don't know if that answers you question.

  • Well, sort of.

Seems like You have enabled the phones location permission, so then I don't know why Garmin is struggling to get location info.

I'm not familiar with Z82, so maybe check out forum for that device?

    1. Edit: You say You have enabled location for wifi and bluetooth. I assume You have none of that on a course. Mobile data traffic enabled so You have internet connection?
