Golf Statistics improvement

Posting in Garmin Golf Android but would apply to iOS and for the Web golf widgets in my Garmin Connect Dashboard.

Just like most in this forum, I'd like to see an improvement in almost all the performance statistics shown by Garmin.

Garmin could present some data better that is accurate has value.

Approach Shot data.

Can we see some data to show us approach shot success by distance? Something like this.

We could then better understand where someone has gaps in their game.

  • Greens hit by distance (ideally I should be able to pick the ranges)
  • Line showing the success percentage for a handicap better than the myself (helps see where work on game should be applied)
  • The  bars could change colour (Green, Red) to show if they are trending better or worse. Help see what is or isn't improving.
  • Allow to filter based on shots from fairway, rough, bunkers. (based on location on course map)
  • Exclude recovery shots.

In my opinion statistics or performance should be there to HELP a golfer see where they need to work on their game.

PS. That is my data. 12 handicap and apparently I'm worse from 50-75y then 76-100y. Dreaded 1/2 and 3/4 swings.

  • Thank you for your new suggestions. Since we have already exchanged information together, I will be happy to add your new suggestions to the main report that we have in place to further improve statistics and performance stats.

  • This statistics would tell only do you get ball on green from certain distance and this isn't enough. Big problem is that this doesn't tell how close to pin you get the ball because there is no possibility to record exact pin position. First Garmin should fix pin position recording problem.

  • If you are allowed to enter your distance from the flag on your first putt, Garmin would then know exactly how far away you are from the flag on our approach shot.

What it wouldn't know is if the flag was at the front middle or back. On a big deep green that could be 20+ yards difference so short term the statistics for SG would be a bit skewed. After enough data you would get a decent mix of pins in all ranges and get a decent average for approach shots.

If Garmin wanted to, they could use the GPS to fine tune the location and make it a bit more accurate so your approach shot ranges are more accurate.

This is the closest we can get to decently accurate SG for approach shots until we can mark pin lcoations.

At at least short term we would have very accurate putting data.

  • Hello,

It would be great improvement if Garmin allows to record distance from flag as it then allows to analyse approach shots accuracy and also strokes gained on putting.

Looking forward to hear Garmin opinion and plans for this?

  • Thanks for informing and sharing previous discussion.

It seems the discussion you referred is already closed with the Garmin closing comment 10months ago that they will take this forward and inform what are next steps. Unfortunately nothing happened since ;-(

It would be really appreciated if Garmin could confirm plans and still simple first step would be manually record distance from flag for first put which can be utilised to calculate eg. following ...

    - quality of approach shot
    - strokes gained by putting
