Sync Inreach Mini2 with GPX imported in Explore Web: user experience?

Saw some other posts on the subject, but no fix yet.

My use case is to import a GPX file that was created in a 3rd party app (Komoot in this case) in Garmin Explore Web (GEW). Then export it as a course in the Garmin Explore App, and sync it to the Inreach.

My experience:

It is imported in GEW as a track. After some time it is sync--ed with the Garmin cloud (slow!). Via the cloud I can exchange the track with Garmin Explore Mobile (GEM).

In GEM I can copy the track to a course (the main Inreach navigation object). For the course the height info is not shown (0). Clicking in GEM on the course, I can go to the map. There I can press an icon where I can select Map Height, and then the Height Diagram is show for the course. No means to keep that value.

In all steps I needed to sort out the required format for each step myself.

Why do I get such bad user experience? And will this be improved in the short term? Or do I do something wrong?

  • Garmin Explore Web will ignore the elevation data in a GPX file, so the track resulting from the import will have no elevation data.

So what I do when I want to get something from Komoot onto my Garmin device, is to export the GPX from Komoot app on my phone, store the GPX locally on my phone, and share it with the Explore app. This will import the GPX in Explore app while retaining the elevation data. Then you can convert to a course if you want to, and sync with your device.

Note that importing a GPX will create a new collection in Explore app. That collection will contain the data in the GPX file, this can be tracks, routes and/or waypoints.

  • Thank you, this helps a lot!
