Explore Web and app out of sync

Just started to use Explore again, and syncing with Fenix 7X on the IOS app. The 3 courses I have on the watch show up in the Explore app, but only 2 of them appear on the Explore Web. The courses are all under "Courses" in the app and both the watch and app are synced according to the app. Any suggestions?

  • Is the one which doesn't appear much longer than the other two? The website restricts the length of files compared to the app and devices.

  • Thanks for your suggestion. No, they are all just short trips of a few kms. Another issue I see is that the web version is extremely slow to load, not really usable today. Is this a general situation?

  • I don't use courses, I use tracks. They are not generally slow to load.

As a bit of history, the Explore website was originally developed by DeLorme who Garmin purchased in 2016. It was designed for handheld GPS units for hikers, explorers, etc. It was based on GPX file types. Most of the Explore website is devoted to inReach which DeLorme also developed.

Garmin has integrated their fitness watch software (FIT filetype) into the Explore web, though fitness watch users already have the Connect website. And they have installed fitness watch software on handheld GPS units (which most hikers, explorers, etc. don't use).

So the issue may just be a compatibility bug. You could convert the Course to a Track and delete the Course. Then synch the Track. If that doesn't work, the file may be corrupted in some way. (You can always convert the Track back to a Course if desired.)

  • Thanks again for the explanation. To me it seems like the app works reasonably well, but the web is struggling big time - taking minutes to load properly. Not sure I dare to trust it when I am on a trip with only offline capabilities though.
