Garmin Explore Web, Mobile and Garmin Connect fail to import .gpx and .kml tracks

Hi all,

I've recently purchased a GPSMAPS 67i. I have trouble importing a .gpx file (with tracks made in Garmin BaseCamp) to either Garming Web Explore or the mobile Explore app. The .gpx track is importable in Google Earth and GPX Viewer (a mobile app), so I don't think the file is corrupt. Also, I've tried Garming Connect (due to recomendations on this forum) but that also did not work. I've connected the GPSMAPS 67i with the app via Bluetooth.

The .gpx file is based on this file, which also is not importable:

https://www.refuges.info/api/massif?massif=2694&nb_points=all&format=gpx_garmin

See also https://www.refuges.info/nav/2694/zone-reglementee/Parc-national-de-la-Vanoise-coeur/ for the other .gpx track and the .kml (.kml also did not work).

Does anybody have this problem as wel/can help? Quite frustrating to buy an expensive new Garmin device which is not working properly, or user friendly.

GPSMAPS 67i versions:

Software Version: 5.30.

GPS Software Version: 2.46.

Cheers,

Roel

  • Large file sizes can cause problems, I don't know how large your file is. You can try importing a known small file, and see if that works. I only import via Explore Web, and Tracks are limited to 10000 points, and Routes are limited to 200 points. Make sure you import as a Track (if file is larger than 10000, it won't import). Also, if you have Garmin Basecamp, try importing into it, and then export to your computer, and then import into Explore Web.

You don't seem to be experiencing a problem with the device, itself.

  • Hi Like2Hike,

Thanks for your reply! The self made track is about 600 kB, the track on which it is based (from the download link) is 40 kB. I've imported the base track to Garmin Basecamp, added tracks, and then exported the resulting .gpx track. Do you mean larger than 10000 points or 10000 kB?

@garmin, as a garmin connect user I would like to see a useful error message when the .gpx track I want to upload is corrupt, invalid or too large

edit: I've managed to upload another .gpx track via Garmin Explore Web, so it seems that the basis .gpx file is not suitable for garmin unfortunately. will dig later into the .gpx file to see why it does not get parsed by the web app.

  • I meant 10000 points (GPS coordinates), not kB. When you import a file in Explore Web it will ask whether you want to import as a Track or Route and it will tell you the data limitations.
