I have used Basecamp as my waypoint/route/track work flow and organization tool for a few years. I have an fenix 6 Sapphire, Instinct Solar, GPSMap 64, and Edge 830 that I hook up to Basecamp to manage hike and ride activity planning and archival. The two watches and GPSMap are also all capable of interfacing to Garmin Explore. Explore's obvious advantage over Basecamp is the ability to transfer tracks and waypoints wirelessly to/from my devices and easily share the Explore collections amongst all devices.
I do seem to get inconsistent synchronization from Explore if I have used Basecamp to directly add or delete waypoints and/or tracks. Lets say that I sync my fenix with Explore. Then I connect the fenix to Basecamp via USB and add or delete waypoints. When I then sync with Explore I will get inconsistent results. Sometimes the sync works as one would expect where items are added/deleted to the Explore collections that match my Basecamp activity. More likely, however, some or all of the waypoints/tracks will be removed from the watch and end up in the Unorganized collection, or worse, are completely deleted from all Explore collections.
Basecamp is a superior planning and archival tool, but I also would like the flexibility for wireless convenience when away from my PC. Can they coexist?
