Northpoint and Scalebar

I've used the InReach Mini 2 on a couple of short bicycle tours. Does anyone else think that the scalebar on the paired mobile phone device is way too short? So short that it makes it difficult to estimate distances on the map? There's a whole screen width that the scalebar could be lengthened to match.

Also it's so annoying that the north point is not always displayed on the paired mobile phone device screen. No. 1 rule of mapping - always show a north point. A couple of times I was trying to read the map and had no indication that north was not up the page.

  • I've never played with the scaling. It might be that the distance represented by the scale bar varies with zoom level. Try zooming in and out to see if it changes.

  • The position pointer arrow gives you two options for navigation: track up and north up. These settings are changed by tapping on the arrow.

When the app is in track up mode you will see a line above the arrow. That indicates the app is using track up mode. This will orient the map so the arrow on the map will always have your direction of travel towards the top of the map. The arrow below will show the direction of North.

The north up option will only show the arrow. With north up enabled the top of the map will always be north of your location. The arrow on the map will change based on your direction of travel.
