Garmin Explore 4.0 Update Offline Maps Functionality Only For Purchased Maps??

the upper part of the screen should show at least one layer, the topo layer. It is ticked on and can't be clicked off. When you pan around the red frame, you can see how the size of the map changes if you would download it.

When you scroll down, you see the available layers.  At least on my phone. I have the topo plus option. I am wondering about your screenshot. It shows Outdoor maps+ which is not available in Japan. Moreover, the layers name is now topo pro, not outdoor maps+

Thanks, but it seems to be an issue with Japan maps, are you able to try that same thing on a location in Japan and see if you lose the layer list?

I checked again Japan areas and have the same problem. What you see is the topo map, but in the list of layers it is missing. There is only the option to download 4 other layers including satellite. I tried the nightlight layer and it works. In nearby countries there is no such problem.

It actually allowed me to “Save” the Tokyo offline map, with 0 layers 0 bytes.

then when I went back to get screenshots the app crashed just afterwards

After the last update Garmin support got in touch again and on their advice I reinstalled the app, and I can now download the topoactive and satellite layers for Japan maps, all happy now, problem solved!
