Garmin Explore vs. Messenger apps

Messenger gives you automatic switching between inReach, cellular and WiFi.  It also supports group messaging. The Explore app doesn't provide that functionality.

However, when I installed the Messenger app, I couldn't send Quick Texts (or it could have been Preset Messages, I'm not sure) from Messenger, I had to use the Explore app.

I deleted the Messenger app, since I don't really need the functionality it provides.

Interesting, thanks.  I wonder what happens if you have a conversation going in Messenger, and you view it in Explorer?  Would you only see the satellite messages?  Or do you see nothing at all?

I really don't recall, but my guess would be only satellite.

Messenger only makes sense if you are constantly going in and out of cellular range, and you want to keep your device blue toothed to your phone. Doing so depletes both batteries faster than if they're not blue toothed.

I typically go out in the backcountry for several hours, where there is no cell service, and then I return home where there is cell service. Messenger isn't a good fit for me.
