Activity sync between Explore and Connect

On https://support.garmin.com/en-US/?faq=Om0zJvBOJ2897CT2dvcFm5 it is said that activities sync between the Explore app and the Connect app. But how does this actually work? I have paired my GPSMAP 67 with Explore. Recorded activities sync with Explore app but don't show up automatically in Connect.

Normally I would pair both Explore app and Connect app with my GPSMAP 67, and this would result in a recorded activity showing up both in Connect and Explore. But having both apps paired with the GPSMAP 67 results in Connect IQ apps not being able to connect to the internet.

  • Now that I have an inReach Mini 2, I too would like to send my Explore Activities to Connect Activities. I figured out how to send Explore Activities to Connect, but they come into Connect as Courses, not Activities. I can't find a way to change a Connect Course to a Connect Activity.

Separately, I was successful at exporting an Explore Activity to a GPX file and then was able to import into Connect via the Connect web app (not the iOS app), but that's too many steps to bother.

  • As far as I know the inReach Mini 2 is not supported by the Garmin Connect app, so I don't think you can wirelessly sync a recorded activity to Connect.

  • I can send an Explore Activity to Connect on my iPhone. The issue is that it creates a Course in Connect, not an activity in Connect.

  • Here’s what it looks like when it comes into Connect

  • Yes, that's exactly my point. You can share an activity from Explore app to Connect app, but Connect app will import it as a Course, not as an activity.

  • I was able to do it by exporting the GPX to my computer and then importing into the Connect website, but that's too many steps. If I want to use Connect, I guess I will just have to save the tracks as Courses. Or I just use Explore for activities that use the InReach Mini 2. If Garmin doesn't make this whole experience easier and more integrated, they will lose out to Apple when Apple finally gets its satellite tracking system and emergency response figured out.

  • I don't think what you're experiencing is due to the Mini 2. I have a 66i and have same experience. I think it has to do with the fact that an Activity can record more data fields (ie, accessories), and Garmin is only allowing positioning data to be sent (Courses, Routes, Tracks).

Connect (courses and activities) came from the fitness watch arena, and Garmin tried to integrate with outdoor recreation devices (Mini 2, 66i), which already had the Explore platform (tracks and routes).

  • It has to do with that the Connect app simply imports a recorded activity shared from Explore app as a course and not as a recorded activity. Not due to it being an inReach Mini 2 (or 66i).

You can try it for yourself by importing any GPX track file into the Connect app. The file will be imported as a Course, not a recorded activity. If you import the same file on Connect web, it will be imported as an activity.

  • Yes, the Connect app and web have a slightly different architecture.

  • I would prefer to call it "inconsistent feature set" Stuck out tongue
