Garmin Fenix 5

When will the Fenix 5 lineup be added?
Will you add the "old" Fenix 5?

Was a long way from Garmin Basecamp Mobile to Explore, I really hope you can get it to the Fenix ASAP
  • Hi,
I believe the whole 5 series will eventually be added after watching this youtube video; https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=EYcS3NwpN7E .
At 0:54 you see both the 5 plus and quatix 5 being active devices.

Here is also an interesting update/review (in German).
    https://www.pocketnavigation.de/2018/10/garmin-explore-app-verfuegbar/

What I got from this article(updated 12.10.2018), the app seam to have a few smaller issues to iron out. Phasing it out, like the fw updates, to fewer devices in the beginning is garmins standard procedure.

I'm looking forward to this service.
(I'm really hoping you will be able to add waypoints (along the courses you create) that are later shown in the distance to waypoints data field. Finger crossed.)
  • Garmins standard procedure is something else: Introduce bug ridden software and don't fix it. Look at the Indes Scale.
Most watches need a lot of bugfixes after they are released. The software changelogs for mobile apps are useless because the are Allgemeinplätze.

I was a user of BasecampMobile and created courses in Apemap with Kompass maps, was really annoyed like a lot of other people when it wasn't supported anymore. As long as Explore is able to load routes via the share button on iOS and can transfer them offline, im a happy user.

Im curios how it moves on.

Just received my 66S and playing around I saw that my Fenix 5X was supported in my products list with a Beta sign by the watch picture.
But, the Fenix does not show in the Explore App (IOS) yet.
  • I just installed the Fenix 5 Beta and it works flawless.
Now, the App has to become usable. There are no turning notifications with routes from it, nor height information. Also, the routes don't snap to the map, if your route is on a curvy street, you have to set a lot of points. For now, Connect is far superior, Basecamp even more.
  • You can now (Since yesterday) add the Fenix 5, Fenix 5 Plus series and the Descent Mk1 to the Garmin Explore app. If your unable to add them, remove the watch from Garmin Connect Mobile and from your bluetooth settings (forget device) on your phone, then try to add them again.
  • before you remove the watch from the system, install the necessary beta on the Fenix lineup. Even if the App would recognize the watch with the old firmware, I doubt it could communicate.
  • It it syncs with FW5.1 and tracks were copied from watch to Explore app. But I anyway then updated to Beta FW before trying all features to avoid possibly creating any bugs with my account,
