POIs Automatically Reassigned to Primary Collection on GPSMAP 66r After Restart

Hi all,

I’m using a GPSMAP 66sr and managing hundreds of POIs across dozens of collections via Garmin Explore. After almost every shutdown and restart, of the app and device around 90% of my POIs are automatically reassigned to the Primary Collection—even though they were previously sorted into specific collections. The tracks however are not affected. They stay in their collection.

This makes it nearly impossible to maintain any meaningful organization. Manually reassigning hundreds of POIs is not feasible, and Garmin Explore doesn’t offer bulk tools or a way to lock collections.

Has anyone else experienced this? Is there a workaround or fix? I’ve already tried:

  • Assigning another primary collection

  • reconnecting bluetooth
  • Updating firmware

  • importing GPX files again and again (which don’t preserve collection structure)

Would love to hear if others have found a solution—or if we can push Garmin to address this in a future update.

Thanks, Thom

  • There is no functionality in the Garmin Explore app for assigning POIs to collections. Are you referring to waypoints?

We have not been able to reproduce the issue you are describing. Are we understanding you correctly to say that you are using the Garmin Explore app to reassign waypoints from one collection to another but that, after closing and re-opening the app, the waypoints are no longer in the new collection but have reappeared in the original collection? If so, could you give the exact steps you are taking to reassign the waypoints from one collection to another?

  • No, I am referring to POI's. In the explorer app I load a gpx file with a track an POI's (points of interest in the area of the track). That collection is given a name in the app and synced with my GPSMAP 66sr. So far all good. I close the app and switch off the device only after checking if all is synced well. At a certain point I would have 10-15 collections in the app and they all have their own POIs.  The next time when I switch on the device and/or open the app 90% of those POIs are reassigned to the primary collection (I do not use the sync all, but only sync designated collections, hence the use of a primary collection is necessary). In the app I can see the number of POIs in a collection go down and the number of POIs in the primary collection go up. There is no action from my site in this except switching on the device and/or the app. I do not want to reassign POIs (although I know how to) but is simply happens.
See the file: The primary collection (AAPrimair) has 200 POI's, which were originally uploaded in one of the other collections by gpx file.
