Garmin frustration

I am simply trying to sync routes from my explore web page to my Garmin 66i. I have done this many times in the past numerous times with no real issues or problems, but now I just can't sync/it won't sync. I have added 25 mountain routes (as tracks) to five folders in web explore (you can't sync more than five in each folder apparently), synced this with my iPhone explore app no problem, and connected/paired the phone to my Garmin 66i also with no problems. Now it should be an easy sync but In the last two days I have managed one successful sync. I need to amend the route collections and all I get is the sync failed error..continuously. I know the transfer is slow and clunky but this is simply rubbish. Any ideas anyone??

I consider myself a pretty good user but have never liked the route syncing experience with Garmin. I find it slow, not reliable, and ever so frustrating. Personally I am thinking of using my third party widgets for other providers on IQ connect for route transfer for GPS use as it is far far easier.

Did you try syncing over the USB cable from Garmin Express? Should be much faster and less problematic than OTA syncing. Another option would be using the Wi-Fi for the syncing - should be also faster than BT.

Also, is there still free storage on the device? And did not you exceed the maximal number of courses? According to the specs, GPSMAP 66i can handle up to 250 courses.

  • I have replied to you Trux. For some reason I can't see it it on here??

  • For some reason I can't see it it on here??

    Neither me

  • I don't know why my original reply to you is not showing Trux? Basically I don't use Garmin connect/express to sync routes, I tend to upload direct to explore, and sync via my iPhone & 66i. Tried both wifi and bluetooth, again negative. Plenty of storage on both my micro sd & internal hd. Only 25 tracks saved. At the moment I am at a loss....??

  • As I wrote, try with Garmin Express over the USB - perhaps you can then see an error message. Garmin Express is often more verbatim at errors than the mobile apps. If it does not help to find the culprit, I recommend reaching out to the Product Support.

  • Hello, I appreciate the reply and support you have offered here. However, Garmin Express does not sync data from the explore website to the device. With the 66i it will only sync data using the Explore app.

  • Hello, are you trying to sync a route or a track? I see you mentioned both. Tracks will not sync from the account but routes will. If you have it listed under tracks in your library on Explore you would need to convert it to a route and then sync. This does not address the error you are getting in the Explore app when trying to sync. How much data are you trying to sync? Are your sync settings sync everything or sync selection?

  • Garmin Express does not sync data from the explore website to the device.

Yes, sorry, I should have written "exporting to Connect and then uploading over the cable with Express", as a workaround to get the course on the device, and in order to possibly see a more verbatim error, when the BT connection fails with no reason shown.

  • I've done this many times before without issues, but now it's just not working. I added 25 mountain routes as tracks into five folders on the Explore web platform (since you can't sync more than five per folder), and they synced with my iPhone Explore tree trimming app without any problems.
