Why Garmin connect and Explore doesn't have the same data?

why After an Activity the altitude or the distance are different in the two app? The difference Is also in the only Explore app:

In the First you can see the lenght 7.3 km, in the second Is 6.7(what the device recorded and what Is shown in the connect app)

Why?

  • I cannot tell you for sure, but my guess is that Explore is showing the distance of your raw GPS track while Connect is showing the corrected distance.

Your watch is recording not just your position but also other sensor data. Because the GPS distance is prone to errors originating from GPS inaccuracies, Garmin tries to correct the GPS distance using other sensor data. What is exported to Explore is probably only the raw GPS track, and therefore it will show a different distance.

You can do an experiment: export the activity as gpx file from Connect and then re-import it as a course into Connect. I guess the distance of the course will then match the distance in Explore.

BTW: The correction by Garmin does not always work well. So in many scenarios, the raw GPS distance will be more correct than the corrected one.

  • Thank you, i Will try as sono as possibile
