Garmin Explore block smart notifications over Garmin Connect

Hello. I have installed on my Android phone Samsung Galaxy S20 Ultra Garmin Connect and Garmin Explore.

I have configured on Garmin Connect to receive smart notifications from specific apps and that worked fine untill I instaled Garmin Explore.

Then Garmin Explore took control of the notikfications. If the smart notifications are turned off in the app my Fenix 7X does not receive notifications.although they are turnet on in Garmin Connect.

If I uninstall Explore the notificatiuons start work fine again.

How to control smart notifications dnly fron Connect app and I have installed Explore in the same time?

It is not good to menage all thing of my Fenix except notifications from Connect.

I want to use Explore only for the maps.

Best regards,

Nikola

  • What happens If you do not disable smart notifications in Explore? Does it send notifications that you disabled in Garmin Connect?

  • Yes.

Also when I disable permision to access notifications in Explore the watch does not receive any notifications.

  • Yeah, it seems that there's been a recent change and if you have the Garmin Explore app (or Garmin Golf), it takes over notification management. Currently there is no way to manage notifications from the Connect app if you have Explore or Golf installed.

  • I cannot remember that I ever set any notification settings in Garmin Explore. I think it always took over the settings from Connect. Maybe there was a bug introduced in one of the recent updates.

  • I cannot remember that I ever set any notification settings in Garmin Explore.

Me neither. Nonetheless notifications stopped working for me recently, and what I found out is that notification permissions were disabled in Explore (although still enabled in Connect), and the only way to make it work is to either enable notification permissions in Explore or uninstall Explore altogether.

  • : Such small annoying bugs can take forever to fix in the Garmin ecosystem. So it's better to try to adapt somehow. I see 2 possibilities for you currently:

    1) You spend some minutes to set the notifications in Explore as well.

    2) If you really only want Explore for its maps, then choose another app. The maps in Explore are not really good and ridiculously outdated (not updated for years).

It could help to write an email to Garmin customer support to make them aware of this issue.

  • Unfortunatly, giving permission to Explore app for me only worked temporarily.

I´ve tried various combinations, and real confusion is that on some settings nofifications work at the first and then stop working.

I´am currently using these settings, and for Connect app I have approved all permisions, as well as auto lunch. I have notification on my Fenix 6, and Explore app closed.

But, it is a real mess actualy, and probably won´t work for everyone.

  • Exactly the same problem with a fenix 6x pro and a pixel 5. I uninstalled the explore app.

  • Uninstalling was my solution as well. I decided that the annoyance of dealing with the recent changes was not worth the benefits of the Explore app. I'm sure I'll re-evaluate in the future but further troubleshooting is not in my current emotional budget.

  • Just as a datapoint, notification are working fine for me.  Connect and Explore both installed an on the latest versions. Fenix 5 Plus, running the latest beta firmware.
