Battery drain and Activity sync

Hey Garmin! People are complaining a lot about the two issues in subject. 

I had to install and reinstall the app several times to make it working again but not sure for how long. 

Sometimes on my Samsung it eats up 30% battery in background.

Also, the Activity sync has stopped at the ones in January...where are the others?

If you can't get to a decent application just give up or pass it over to other developers.

Additonally: why the redudand configurations with Connect? Like Notifications, Updates, etc...

I'm Super confused.

  • Hello  could you please provide us with more information, so hopefully, we can figure out what is causing this issue? What devices are you using? Is your mobile phone up to date? Do you have the "Background Behavior" option set to on, in the App Settings? Did you enable Notifications and location for the app? 

    Any extra information would be helpful for us, no matter how insignificant it might look at first glance.

    I write a lot here in the forum....and almost forgot this post even...perhaps it's a good sign.

    Let me try to update you:

    - Garmin Connect on Android (Samsung S10, Android 12) seems to work ok since one of the recent updates. Also my Samsung got a few updates so..who knows by now. I also see less posts on this specific item.

    - I had Fenix 6 Pro at that time, with 19.x, then 20.x then a few betas. So again...by now..who knows !

    - I have a Fenix 7 SS since two weeks and part of beta program (8.16). Fenix 7 partially filled in the gap of poor configuration on the Connect App, now we can do more. Good.

    - What still eats up battery and I (we..) find really really frustrating and confusing is Garmin Explore. I keep it since sometimes useful but keep it under Android power saver. With great potentiality but pretty confusing. For example: why we can setup the notifications and other things in there and in Garmin Connect ? Also it missed lot of my activities even when it had full authorizations on my Samsung. It stopped in Jan22..no way to sync with my watch or Connect (web / App) ..then magically since the last update (a few days ago..)..again magically it reported my last two activities (random ? who knows) but it stopped again...yesterday's is missing (I assume the next ones will not be reported...). Those are both in my watch and Connect.

    - Overall the App & Sync ecosystem experience is not at the level of your brand. Nor matching the price of your "tools" (that I love). It'd be better to rethink the ecosystem, the clould, the synchronization among apps and cloud, the overall user experience I'd say.

    I won't go off topic with something I'm reporting in other places linked to beta software etc.
