Garmin Explore App Android Battery Drain

I have a Pixel 6 Pro running Android 12. I had the Garmin Explore app installed on my device and over the course of 13 hrs, it used 31% of my battery. I was not signed into the app, did not have the app open, and had not even opened the app since turning my phone on. Has anyone else had this issue? I uninstalled the app to conserve battery and did not take notice of the app version. I plan to install it again now that I am in an area of connectivity and see if I can reproduce the issue.

  • I've had that happen twice in the last two weeks. Pixel 4A, Android 12 as well. I haven't opened the app either.

  • I just had this start happening as well.

  • I would suggest you make sure you kill the app full...   so that is is not running in the backgroud... It is possible to do this.. on my device you simply click and hold on the app  till a menu appears with an info icon then click that  followed by  clicking force closed... you may also be able to remove it from the auto runs in android settings too...

  • This is certainly good advice, but for me it hasn't been a case of me opening the app and then letting it run, it's opened by itself and stayed running in the background and drained considerable battery doing so. Again, the app never 'opened.' I've paused the app and now it's not opening. Probably going to just uninstall soon.

  • I have only been using garmin explore for the past 7 months(since I got my Fenix watch) and experienced the same issue you had.. For me this resolves it.. If I reboot the phone the app starts up again but once I do as I have stated I have no further issues...   Why the heck it needs to always be runnings is a mystery as it is not needed nor should but I have come to learn that Garmin software must be written by either a child or very low paid staff who don't give a damn.... Hardware is Brillaint and is let down by the software sadly...

  • There is an option in App Settings that enables/disables "background behaviour", this option states that it affects battery life - is this enabled?
