Garmin Explore/fenix 6 syncs everything? Is this the intended behaviour?

I tried Garmin Explore on Android today and even though I selected "sync selection", it is syncing routes and activities from the watch to explore. It does this since over an hour now. Is this the intended behaviour? Can I delete synced Activities and Tracks or will they sync again? And will they stay on Garmin Connect or get they deleted there? Or get they double synced? I really don't get it and I am unable to find a good documentation on especially how I stop syncing every running activity to Explore too.

Also, the notification part of the app seems odd - isn't that the same thing Garmin Connect Mobile already does? Should I turn this off?

  • The first time you sync, everything currently on your watch will sync to Explore.  If you've got "Sync Selection" set in Explore, then only things in the selected collection will be synced TO your watch.

After the initial sync, only new data will be synced from the watch to Explore.  ie, what you're going through at the moment is a one-time thing.  And yes, it can be ssllooowww for that first sync.

Nothing you do in Explore (as far as routes/tracks/etc) will impact Connect.  Personally I like the fact that my tracks are in both, and sometimes the view of them in Explore (especially on the website - explore.garmin.com) can be better than on Connect depending on what you're looking for.  eg, the map view in Explore that shows ALL of your tracks on the map is very nice!

For notifications, I find Connect to be more reliable, so I disable all notifications on Explore.

  • Thanks, that helps a lot!

I think I'll give it another try tomorrow.

However, as I mentioned, when I disabled notifications on Explore, I got no notifications whatsoever. So my question is - did you unselect everything or did you just revoke notification access to Explore?
