New Forerunner 945 won't synch with Garmin Explore

Downloaded Garmin Explore on my LG V40.  Forerunner 945 is already registered and synched with Garmin Connect.  Open Garmin Explore, sign into my Garmin account in Explore, the app goes to Verifying Garmin Explore Account.  Then I get the page "No Supported Devices Found  Register supported device with Garmin Connect".

Three buttons on this page, the first takes me to Garmin Connect, where I see I'm connected and synching with my 945.

Second button takes me to Supported Devices page.  I find my 945 on that menu, it tells me to put my device in Bluetooth pairing mode.  It is already paired, but I go to the pair phone selection and select, putting watch in pairing mode, but the Garmin Explore app on the phone never acknowledges anything.

Am I doing anything wrong here?  Or is this another Garminism?
