Explore Thoughts And Question

Ive sent a course from the mobile app Explore to the 5x with no problems.....I had to name the course on the watch....didn't see an option in Explore?
Courses are created using point to point method....no stay on roads option?
Also my saved locations ( waypoints) have to be scrolled over and clicked on before I see any text information.....so you might see a load of blue flags ( your saved locations) when making a course.....but you don't know what they are.....even clicking on them dosen't work in course mode.
Also maps on the watch don't seem to be uploaded.....just an option to download a couple of not very detailed maps...and you can't view your tracks while making a course.......it seems basic....but I'm excited to use it. :--)
My question would be.......
Is it like basecamp where Ive uploaded all my saved locations to Explore......If I perform a hard reset on the 5x....can I download my saved locations etc back again through Explore.....instead of using basecamp.....and how can I upload maps from the watch to Explore if possible?

ps.... very hard to get through forum post verification....almost 20 tries?
  • I just installed explore to my phone.
how the H do I use it?
  • I'm completely lost !!!!!!!!

you can name the course (track) in the app. (in the iOS app it works). and after sending it tot the watch, i have the same of the course in the watch.

i think that works. after first sync, i had no waypoint and no course anymore on the watch. but they all have been in the explore app. when you add them to a collection and sync the collection back, you get your waypoints and courses back to the watch.

i really like it. now i can organise all the waypoints in the app on the fly. also i like, that i can be completely offline with the phone, create a course and send it to the watch. or send the activity to the app and view it, without having a internet connection.
  • Thanks for your reply Mistamp....
Its good to know we have another back up for saved locations :--)
I like that I can do an activity.....and add it to the collection as a track.....( a course) without internet connectivity......a great feature.
I do wish Explore had satalite imagery capability......or the option to download a small area.....would help while making a course.

There’s at least this for the moment https://youtu.be/zMTMb_-7qyA Garmin did publish (for about 24 hours) this and another follow on video that were actually really useful. Sadly it’s only this one that the Garmin EMEA lot captured and republished.
  • Can anyone explain me why on Xperia xz2 compact and Huawei mediapad m5 my fenix 5x+ and 5x aren't displayed in explore and on iPhone 6 they are?!?

    JessicaT it doesn't work
  • Note about Garmin Explore....

Making a course with Garmin Explore will not generate turn by turn directions....instead....will generate waypoints like basecamp.
This is by design and not a bug...( talked with product support)...
I would have liked to see turn by turn directions....but its nice to see the waypoint data field finally active...as I've not seen it work before making a course in GC...
