Update descent transmitter ?

I get a message on my descent mk2 after my dives saying there is an update for my transmitter. I enter the last 2 digits of the transmitter serial # as requested and start the process but it gets to a screen saying it is connecting but always fails.  What am I failing to do?

  • I’m a diving newbie (SD, upgrading to OW), and looking to get my first dive computer.

(The rest of the gear I’ll rent for now, but I’d prefer to have my own computer)

My preferences are watch-style, with compass, with air integration, and an easily readable color display.

Looking through what’s available, I found two used Garmin Mk2i with the T1 Transmitter locally, for 799€ and 899€ respectively. The second one even is in-warranty for a few more months.

So on the one hand, shelling out 899 (I’d probably get the one with warranty) after a total of 4 dives seems like a lot, on the other hand, this seems like a really good price, and I’d be set for the next decade (unless I *want* to upgrade, the OLED screen of the Mk3 looks very tasty).

Being able to use the Garmin out of water is nice but I already have an Apple Watch for that, so it’s not a main priority.

What do you all think? Or would you recommend a different and/or cheaper computer?
