Cannot enter my state

Have the Garmin Nuvi 1300. Just set to factory. Now I cannot get my state(NJ) to install. It is now set to Ohio.When I try to change the state, I type in N and get a choice of new mexico nevada, no New Jersey, finally got the whole state on the Garmin and got the message that it could not recognize the State? Any ideas?
