Actually, I have issues with all of the Garmin Software: Express, Base Camp, and GDC Player. The hardware, the nuviCam GPS, doesn't seem to be fully functional, either. I would like to know if I am doing something wrong, or should I do the smart thing and return it for a refund.
1. The nuviCam came with a 4 GB SD card, which filled nearly to capacity just by turning it on. It doesn't recognize new chips.
2. The GDC Player is horrifically slow, or it has communication problems with the nuviCam GPS.
3. The Base Camp software gives error messages whenever I create a trip, and then try to send it to the GPS.
As bad as that sounds, I have noticed on quirk. If I open up Garmin Express, then the GDC Player is suddenly able to communicate with the nuviCam GPS. Unfortunately, this trick does not work with the apparent communication problems with Base Camp. However, the error messages seem to be erroneous, because the some data is transferred into the GPS. Exactly what, I don't know. I've downloaded and installed 4.5.1, and I see the same issues. The messages claim that there was an error transferring the GPX file, and I get the same message when transferring to either SD chip/slot.
As far as adding a larger SD card goes, I have tried a 32 GB card, to no avail, which was not surprising because I cannot find a menu to initialize, or format, the chip for use with the GPS. I did notice that there were two slots: one with the default card, and one for expansion. I swapped the chips between them, and presto the GPS recognized the new 32 GB card when it was placed into the red slot, where the default SD card had been located.
Basically, I think the whole setup is full of bugs and quirks. I don't think I am doing anything wrong. I have too much experience with Windows PCs for that.
