4 million steps?

So Garmin Connect thinks I did over 4 million steps today. My vivosmart and says only 11,000.Don't know what happened but i cant find any way to delete today's misinformation, which kind of skews my averages a bit. Any way to correct this? This on the mobile app as well, so it's obviously a server side error.

Here's an image of my steps in Garmin Connect. The 26 miles is from a bike ride today.
  • The lack of responsiveness is amazing

Reading through this thread I cannot believe in the lack of responsiveness to the myriad of similar issues. The thread seems to have been running for 2 years...
I can confirm I have the same issue. My Garmin Connect today shows in excess of 5 million steps. My vivosmart is connected to the magnet less bike speed sensor and it's firmware version 3.60.
Come on Garmin, the lack of customer service and communication will lose you customers......
  • This thread was started on August 19th so it hasn't been 2 years.

That being said, the million steps issue really seems to be taking a long time to be fixed for sure. I believe it actually began with 3.40 or 3.50.
It should have been fixed by now.

    Same Issue - Unacceptable response

Just started using Vivosmart and bike speed sensor last week and had 3 million miles added on second bike ride (13 miles). Support responded known issue, no way to fix bogus step count. That's unacceptable - the product does not work as advertised and they are offering no solution to a simple software issue. Speed sensor is going back to Amazon with a negative review (as a verified purchaser). Still deciding on doing the same with Vivosmart - I love the move bar and waterproof rating, but the software is horrible. I love my Nuvi car GPS, but this experience will make me a lot more skeptical of their marine and aviation products.

Same problem for me (vivosmart + speed sensor)

Just to keep the thread active & growing: I'm having the same issue and also have a support case open.

I'm testing a couple of things out: start, end, and save a short activity right before my main bike ride. It seems to reduce the step counts of regular 3.7 mile rides I make, but they're still between 700,000 and 3M each. Sometimes the second bike ride of the day doesn't count millions of steps. I'm also testing out very short bike rides of less than a mile.

I'm happy that it's not writing millions of steps to Healthkit and I can track my step history there. Unfortunately though, Garmin Connect has another issue with steps: sending duplicated step counts to Healthkit.

I want my past data fixed in Garmin Connect eventually. (My support person told me the difficulty in changing them is linked to Challenges but I don't understand why.)

Are people getting issues with constantly disconnecting heart rate readings whilst the speed sensor is engaged. My two issues are:
    - Heart rate readings constantly going to zero then back (and yes, I replaced battery and tightened the belt - worked fine when speed sensor was not in the picture)
    - and of course step counts been thrown off

Would appreciate if Garmin will help correct the millions of incorrect steps that were added to our records.

Yup I have the same issue, i posted it i think on Vivosmart forum, This issue as well as the millions step is STILL THERE !!!!!!!
I gave up contacting Garmin, they simply dont care.

    Possibly fixed

Today, for the first time ever, I have not had this problem. My biking pattern is a little different today, I took shorter rides, but I logged 4 rides and none of them overcounted steps.

A Garmin support person told me it was being worked on. Hopefully it was!

    Different Scenario

I have been a couch potato all day today with a migraine. This evening I happened to look at my vivofit. Supposedly I have taken over 23,000 steps. The app shows 29,600 steps. Has anything happened in the past 24 hours? I am crossing my fingers this as only a 1 day anomoly.

    Same Issue (134 million steps)

Bought my daughter a Vivofit 2 a few days ago, yesterday she sat around and watched TV most of the day, but had 134 million steps. Is there no way to remove that history from Garmin Connect? I've replaced batteries and reset the device.

  • Greg and gpalmer71,

Your issues are different than the ones from last year which, at that time3, were caused by using a vivosmart with a bicycle cadence sensor.

Your issue was acknowledged by Garmin yesterday and they say they are working on it.
