Garmin connect can't link with Strava > spins indefinitely trying to authorize

I've sent support questions to both Garmin and Strava but trying my luck here as I'm sure others have encountered this (100% reproducible).
I am trying to link my Garmin Connect and Strava. In Strava, you do this though social media settings and authorizing Garmin Connect. This pops up another browser window that opens the Garmin Connect site (https://connect.garmin.com/modern/oauthConfirm?hl=en_US&oauth_token=022c5e1a-03ca-4f0b-86e2-66d838a2014f&oauth_callback=https://www.strava.com/oauth/garmin_connect/authorize). This window displays the 'Connect powered by Garmin' then 'Strava do you authorizes Strave to use your Garmin account and its data' etc. But near the bottom, just beneath 'Don't have an account? Create One' there is a spinning circle that spins indefinite (>50 minutes). I've tried numerous times with the same result every time. I've even tried changing my Garmin account to the same email address used by my Strava account and still no difference.

Ideas?

For me, this is totally non functional full stop. The Strava integration functionality is perhaps the #1 most important feature to me with the Edge 520.

i had the same issue using my IPhone to try and connect gamin connect to strava - i solved this by going onto my PC. if you open strava and garmin on your PC and then following the promt's to connect the two it works!

I _was_ using this on a PC. Tried on multiple Win7 systems using both IE11 and Firefox (multiple versions).

In another forum someone was saying that it is possible to link the two using the Strava phone application, I haven't tried that (I don't like using the Strava app, much prefer the web site but as a one time thing it's probably worth a shot).

I tried it on everything, in the end the android app worked for me.

Still unable to connect stava and garmin

I've experienced exactly the same issues for some time now...I get the indefinite spinning when trying to authorise the strava connection to Garmin. I've tried disconnecting and reconnecting. opening and closing garmin and strava on a mac. using the iphone apps for both garmin and strava.

not exactly a showstopper in terms of functionality but I am sure it's a problem that either Garmin or Strava would at least like to offer a solution on. I've filed support queries on both now.

    Any ideas welcome.
    thanks

    Same problem

I was able to connect through the iPhone app: More > Settings > Link Other Services

It works, but a pretty pitiful and not necessarily intuitive work-around. Shame on Garmin. Or is it Strava...?

  • authorize via iphone strava app

Thanks, Richard. Your solution worked for me after I had the same problems as the others posting here. It connected in two seconds.

It's quite pathetic that I searched for this issue and found this thread, and it's still ongoing as of October 25th. All I have is a spinning circle, no way to link accounts, nothing happens. So I won't be using strava and wouldn't be using Garmin Connect if I had a choice. Especially not the new version now the old version is being retired soon.

I had to split a run into 2 different runs today, all I wanted to do was see the total mileage and pace as if the run was one run. Gave up figuring out how to do it in Garmin Connect new version - in the old version all I have to do is go to reports and ask for a report of what I've run today. On the new Garmin connect if I go to reports I can't even see today'd activity, I'll have to wait until tomorrow and there doesn't seem to be an option to customise the dates.

    I'll revert to using a ******* calculator it's easier.

Can anyone recommend a program out there that actually does what people want it to do? I read all this fancy stuff you're supposed to be able to do but I can't even figure out how to see how far I ran in a day on separate runs on the new Garmin connect.

And while I've been typing the circle is still going round on Strava trying to connect to Garmin.

    What total rubbish.
