Today I attempted to sync/upload activities (just 3 over the last couple days) to Garmin Connect. After the sync appeared to complete on Garmin Express, I received an error saying that there was an error uploading 2 of the 3 files and that I should manually delete them from the device. WTF? It's not clear to me what caused those errors, but the one thing that drives me a little crazy is that there isn't an easy way (that I know of) to retry the upload/sync. With Garmin Express, it seems to be 'one-and-done'.
I didn't find much help in the way of forum searches, perusing the manual, help sections on the various Garmin web pages, etc. But eventually I was able to upload the files by removing the device from Garmin Express and 're-installing' it. The activities appear to be fine as I view them in both Strava and Garmin Connect. So the files aren't corrupt, but the original sync was for some reason.
So I'd like to throw out some questions into the Garmin Forum ether to see if there are known solutions besides what I tried and was thankfully successful at doing.
- Are there other ways to retrieve files from the Garmin device other than using Garmin Express?
- If a sync/upload fails, is there another way to upload the files besides doing what I did (remove and re-install the device to Garmin Express)?
- Do the files get uploaded directly to the local computer? If so, where are those files located?
I realize that answers to my questions may already exist in the forum, but I was having some difficulty finding what I was looking for. So apologies if this issue has already been beaten to death. Direction to existing forum posts would be much appreciated, if that's the case.
