what is this new requirement to install software just to upload activities from my forerunner 210 watch?? This is horrible. Why limit users from doing something that was soo easy to something much more complex??? What if folks don't have admin rights to install software on their PCs? Is this garmin's way of trying to lock in users? if so, this is really backwards thinking and I'll be looking for the 1st opportunity to jump ship and move on.
  • Not sure what you mean by a 'new requirement'? What exactly do you mean?

here's the message I see on my garmin connect page when trying to upload from my watch.:

    Upload
Transfer activities from your Garmin device to Garmin Connect.
We've redesigned Connect and improved activity uploads.

Our new upload process requires Garmin Express or Garmin Connect Mobile. These applications sync your activities whenever your device is connected.

  • Hardly new, been out for over a year? Driven partly by browsers withdrawing support for NPAPI plug ins.

that's not a valid argument.. there are all sorts of other standards they can use in place. It's simply importing a file from a file storage device. I fail to see how running a separate application helps users in terms of ease of use. This new application will sit on your PC sucking up resource and potentially send usage info back. Furthermore, an app like this will be seldomly used and patched which leads to all sorts of vulnerabilities.
  • If you're that concerned I'd raise them in the Garmin Express forum.
