Garmin Connect Analysis of part of a training

Hi all,

I am not able do analyse a part of a training afterwards in Garmin Connect.

For example i want to analyse the uphill part of a trail run. In Garmin Connect i can zoom in the small grafics but the overall numers do not change.

It would be perfect if the part of the track would be marked in the big map at the top and all the statistics at the bottom would change due to the values of this marked part of the training!

is anybody else missing this, am I doing something wrong or how do you handle this e.g. with another software?

thanks for your help

    Hello,

is nobody else missing this feature! I think for a training software it is essential.

Download the tcx, cut the datafile down to the section that you want to analyse and upload that section.
Or upload the entire ride to Strava or Training Peaks and analyse.

Strava free does exactly what you are asking for.

thanks for your reply. I have a Strava account but up to now I didnt found out how to analyse this! can you give me a short description?

nevertheless I think it is standard for a training analysis software. all other big players (suunto, polar) have this feature!

  • I don't think GC was marketed/intended as a full-featured training analysis package

The statistics for an activity are just that – for the entirety of the tracked activity. If you want to be able to see a part of the activity split out for analysis, then you mark it as a lap, and then look for it in the Splits tab.

You press the Lap button on the watch while you're running to mark the start/end of a lap, and not after the fact in Garmin Connect (online or Mobile) with a GUI once the activity data has been uploaded.

I don't know about the other brands, but the use of TomTom GPS sports watches with the TomTom MySports service takes the same approach. Garmin Connect (and, for that matter, TomTom MySports) is not meant to be a training analysis service/application that takes raw workout activity data captured by any compatible data source, and then do all the post-processing and analysis in accordance with the user's preferences and instructions. Metrics such as the fastest 5km (or fastest mile) time, VO2Max, time in the different HR zones, etc. are all calculated by the watch, and the results are uploaded to Garmin Connect's database ‘in the cloud’ upon syncing. Similarly, splits in an activity are captured by the watch. The user interfaces for Garmin Connect (i.e. the Garmin Connect online ‘web site’ and Garmin Connect Mobile apps) are primarily for presenting data in preset ways, and allowing users to change personal profile details and device settings.
  • I miss that too. In Polar flow you can easly and crearly to that

  • You can achieve the desired effect by trimming the activity to the section of interest. You will then see the stats for the trimmed part. Since the Trim function is reversible, you can repeat it as many times as you need.
