How to bind activities to goals

Former Member
Former Member
Hi,

I am a newbie to the Vivosmart, just had it for 3 days

I created a goal with Garmin Connect, then I started and finished an activity
in my Vivo Smart. How do I bind my goal to this activity?
I can see my first activity on Garmin Connect, but how do I tell it
to apply that activity to the goal I created?

  • Not familiar with the vivo active but on the other devices any activity that has the same activity type as your goal will contribute to the goal as long as it is in the appropriate time period
  • I'm curious as to the goal you set for yourself. If it's a step goal which is the only goal I'm aware of for the vivosmart, the activity isn't bound to it. However, your steps are counted regardless of whether it's part of an activity or not. Steps are independent. There is no built-in way to see the steps associated to an activity other than manually taking note or calculating them yourself.

I logged into connect.garmin.com and in the GOAL panel, I created a custom TENNIS goal that do not belong to any defined categories
and I don't see a way to bind it to the activies I saved from the Vivosmart band. The funny thing is that I can bind the activities to
the pair of shoes I created under the GEAR section, and the miles I did for my activities accumulate in my shoes (gear section)

Why can Garmin also include another link to bind the activities to the GOAL?
Should be easily accomplished since they already did that with GEAR :)

  • I don't know how you'd do it with the vivosmart as the only activity type it records is running or, if you have a cadence sensor, cycling.

I start the ACTIVITY in my Vivosmart, then save it when I am done... once uploaded, I rename it to TENNIS-08-01-2015...
It basically records everything it normally does like pace, heart rate monitor (via Garmin HRM chest strap), mileage covered...
In the connect.garmin.com account, under ACTIVITY section, I can associate my gear (shoes I used for tennis) it automatically
accumulates the mileage I cover for these relate activities.

The GOAL I created was basic mileage covered in 30 days with my tennis activities
It is kind of stupid that I can create GOAL, but then have to manually add up the activities.
What I like to see is the ability to tie ALL my activities to GOAL, and list the average
as well as the min/max of the telemetries

I own a VS and think I may be able to assist as I have had this issue before.

The way to "link" the activity to the goal is to make sure you correctly label the activity.
In the upper left corner of the activity (above the name) is a drop-down that you'll have to change. I don't see "tennis" as an activity option on mine so you may have to select something else.
If you change this to be the same activity as the activity used for your goal, then it will be added to the total for your goal.
I do lots of cycling and have to remember to change this from running to cycling before it is added to the goal total.
    Hope this helps...wdp

    Yes... that works
I should have figured that out :)
Although, Garmin allows us to manually connect ACTIVITY to GEAR, I would imagine GOAL is just another object
that can be easily be manually connected to ACTIVITY.

Oh well, I use whatever works.... but then this will not allow having of 2 goals of the same type... since which one
will activities be linked to ... C'mon Garmin, ,just allows us to bind ACTIVITY to to selective GOAL... done.

    Thanks a bunch

    Yes, that works
I guess there can only be 1 GOAL per activity type, otherwise which GOAL would Garmin
use to connect to the ACTIVITY of that same type :)

    Thanks a bunch...
