Copying steps in Garmin Connect workouts?

My current training plan has a lot of variation in its track workouts. I find it very time consuming to build these in Connect... is there a way to copy steps? That way if I have similar steps, it's just copy/paste/modify, as opposed to building each step from scratch. I'm thinking if I could figure this out I could cut down my workout building time by at least 75%. Is this possible?
  • Sadly this is still not possible.

    Someday...

  • Hi all,

I have a work around that I’m hoping you like:

Use ‘Rounds’ as sets. In rounds you can add a single exercise and adjust the amount of Rounds (sets) you wish to do.

Eg: Create a Round and set the amount to 3 sets, add your exercise(s), a superset (if you’re keen) and a 1min rest and save.

Issue: you can’t preprogram pyramid sets or increases/decreases in reps per set.

Fix: you can update these on your watch as you complete each set or in the Connect app post workout by editing the activity.

  • Good in theory and likely ok for a portion of lifters. However, the inability to adjust reps during routine creation is a showstopper for anyone with hypertrophy or strength programming. I'm guessing that's likely a large portion of folks looking to program a lift routine into their watch in the first place.

Target reps change depending on both set number and cycle. Your suggestion would still necessitate having another app open.

  • Good work around using Rounds as Sets!

    Thank you!

  • Yes, however, once you hit ‘Next’ after each exercise in the round/set, using the Fenix 6, your immediately asked if you want to edit your reps and weight before saving and moving on to the next activity.

So, in programming you just need to add number of rounds and the exercises, and you can then update the Reps and Weight in real-time on the fly.

Also, in preprogramming your workout, to remind myself what reps and weight I’m doing, I add a note the exercises which you can see in the ‘view details’ option (the same way you can see the instructional exercise animation)

    Eg: Reps 12,10,8,8 / Kgs 12,14,20,12

I’ve added a custom workout and followed this process to to answer the Sets issue woth not being able to copy exercise easily and reduce preprogramming time.

It works quite well that, for such a basic fitness requirement, I’m inclined to think that they’ve just named it differently—Rounds vs Sets

try it and let me how you go RocketRocket

  • No worries Smiley

When you try it, I’d be keen to know how you get along

  • So, I have another work around since it is still not available after YEARS of requests....

First, take the time to create a master template.  This means that you create all of the different variations of workout reps you want, e.g. pyramids, etc.  Very time consuming, however, once you create this template of a workout type with varied work rest intervals, etc., you can then copy the workout as a new workout and DELETE the portions that you don't want to use in your NEW workout.  For example, I made a template that has a pyramind of 1 min work, 2 min rest, 2 min W, 2 min R, 3 W, 2, R, 4 W, 2 R, 5 W, 2 R 6 W, 2 min R and back down.  Then I copy the template and delete to scale.  Is it the best way, I don't know, but it certainly saves time every time I want to create a pyramid of similar structure.

    Just my two cents...

  • Still not available in new BETA Connect. Pathetic.

  • Go to https://connect.garmin.com/modern/workouts

Click on the workout you want to clone, then on the right side click duplicate, after the page refreshes you are on the COPY OF... workout

  • The point is not to copy a whole workout but only a few steps in it. If you for example you have a series of 1km/1m rest/2km/2min rest/3km/3min rest and you want to repeat this series let1s say three times, there is no way to do that. In general workout editing features are quite disappointing, I dear say...
