Sorry to reinstate an old thread but....I just disconnected the watch from the connect app and repaired. In the process I was asked to give location permission on the phone for the connect app. It had been set to "only when app in use" and I changed it to "always". I think that is what fixed the problem. If the watch asks the phone app for the location and its not allowed to use location unless its actually in use, then it can't provide the data.
