Etrex Vista C to Garmin Connect

Hi,

I am wondering if someone can assist with getting a track from eTrex Vista C device up to my Garmin Connect account....I've spent HOURS trying to get this to work, and still no luck. Tried opening a support ticket with Garmin (that was a waste). I am on a Mac. I have Garmin Express on my machine. Garmin Express does not recognize the device. I am forced to use Garmin BaseCamp to import my track from my device. It successfully comes into BaseCamp & appears to be valid. BaseCamp has a menu option to "Export to GarminConnect", which fails. From BaseCamp, I've tried numerous gyrations to export the file as gpx, tcx, kml. Attempts to upload into Connect fail with either "undefined" or "invalid file format". I've tried importing various formats into Strava (hoping to import into Strava so I can turnaround & export to GarminConnect)...Those attempts all fail. One upload attempt produces a message saying "missing information", which appears to be related to the fact that gpx files do not have a "required" time stamp...From there I've I found, numerous forum discussions referencing 3rd party software to manipulate the file, and details about ways to edit the raw files in a text/xml editor of some sort....No Luck. My last attempts have been to bring the track into Google Earth (which it does successfully do) & somehow export over to GarminConnect, however I am not to savvy with Google Earth. I am so FRUSTRATED with the lack of integration between garmin physical devices, software, and web applications that these things are intended for !!!

Looking for advice/tips/tricks to do something that should be so simple.

Thanks in advance.
  • Your Etrex is a relatively old device and not really capable of integrating with Connect. As you've discovered unless you have time stamps in the gpx file Connect cannot import it. Is there any reason why you're using Connect, which is aimed at fitness devices, rather than BaseCamp?
  • I have other Garmin devices & only use my eTrex device in "cases of emergencies" for some of my fitness activities....In the past, I was able to get activities over to Connect, but for the life of me I can't remember how I went about it. Still searching for answers...
