Why do some rides register segments whereas other exact same rides do not? I was in third place on the Leaderboard for a particular segment. On a future ride I crushed it and became #1. Unfortunately, Garmin did not register the segment. I ride this particular trail a lot and when I went back in Garmin Connect, sometimes segments show and sometimes they do not. Very inconsistent and very frustrating.
I have not used segments on Garmin Connect. But I've been very happy with how they work on Strava.com and Mapmyride.com. They always pick up my rides that pass through published segments.
On Garmin Segments, I like to review my performance against my age group. When Segments works properly, it's a great feature. That same feature on Strava is not available on the free version. I'd have to pay $59 annually, which I'm trying to avoid if I can get Garmin Segments to record properly.
My segments never pop up on my device even though they are loaded and enabled but my times always appear once I sync the ride to GC. I, like you, am trying to avoid using additional apps and/or pay fees for them.
Garmin Connect appears to be in the process of some kind of Strava integration with segments, so not sure if everything is working as expected right now. I would also really like some details about what is happening.
i to have the same problem 3 times i have bettered my ride and its not recorded it on Garmin connect. When i look at the segment info on the day in my Garmin510 i can see my ride time, and i can see its faster than my personal best on the same page on the Garmin 510 but for some reason it does not use the info its recorded and says i never did the segment at all Garmin Connect. All other data is uploaded. Garmin must be aware of the problem , i wish they would fix it.
