Add new gear (extra bike)

Hi Can someone help me with my question. I have a edge 1000 and I'm still learning the basics and I want to add another bike. When I try to add another bike, I'm asked the question; do I want to change this bike to be the default bike? What default mean? Can I keep track of my bikes separately (how many KM's each bike has done)?

Add a Profile not Bike (gear)

Hi Can someone help me with my question. I have a edge 1000 and I'm still learning the basics and I want to add another bike. When I try to add another bike, I'm asked the question; do I want to change this bike to be the default bike? What default mean? Can I keep track of my bikes separately (how many KM's each bike has done)?

Default means that no matter what bike you actually ride the mileage for each activity will go to that Bike (gear). What is happening is that your first Bike (gear) has a box checked probably Cycling. Select Edit for your first bike and at the bottom see what box is checked. If you leave all of your gear (Bikes) with no boxes checked then the mileage will not be assigned and not show in your totals for any bike. Unfortunately you then have to MANUALLY select the gear for each activity

I assume that you have Profiles assigned for each bike on your Edge 1000? That is what I have for all 3 bikes. Then in Connect I have a box for each bike. I select the bike I ride the most as the default by checking the Cycling box in Edit for that bike (gear). When I ride another bike I have to do an Edit Gear and change it to the bike I actually rode. A pain, my Edge knows what bike I rode why cant Connect just use that to assign the mileage etc to the correct bike? Garmin support tells me this cant be done and I have posted this question on this forum and got no help. Just more of the Garmin software mess. The designers must have rode surf boards on the moon or something, they certainly don't understand how bikers want to use it.

I hope you can follow what I said above, I didn't include all the steps, screens etc but hope you can figure it out within Connect. It is one of the hardest software packages I have ever used. Things you expect a Windows package to do it doesn't and things are not where you expect them to be. AND I haven't found any decent documentation. A shame, I like the device but heaven forbid you have to call support!!!! or try do something like this.

Also see my post on the list just below your post where I got help on setting up multiple windows in Connect, one for each bike (gear)
