BUG : Incorrect Calorie Calculation for manual swimming activity

Former Member

Hi,
I have a vivofit and wear it often to swimming as well. Recently I started adding my swimming activities manually and noticed that it doesn't matter what distance I have been swimming it always shows me that I burnt 1420 Cal (Active). I tested this scenario by manually adding a swimming activity for 2 hours with just 250m of swimming and then I entered another swim activity manually for the same duration but this time I said I swam 2km but the calories burnt still remains 1420 calories. Infact if I say that I have been swimming 50km in 2 hours the calories burnt is still 1420 Cal. This is a major bug I guess and needs to be fixed. And this is the same in both cases (Android App as well as Web interface). The number of calories burnt in case of a manual swim activity entry always depends only on the time factor e.g calories burnt for 3 hours (irrespective of swimming distance) is always 2130, for 4 hours its always 2840 Cal etc. Its always in increments of 710Cal. Its a pathetic algorithm there. Please fix this as this doesn't even make any sense and is in no way expected from a company like Garmin!!!

I lol'd. QA and customer service aren't what Garmin are known for doing well.

Ya that might be true :). However this is really not a feature request or a product not working as expected. Its an already present feature, implemented in an extremely stupid way. I hope someone is listening. Thats the point of these forums isn't it?
  • Idk anymore, I've seen it mentioned that this is more of a user forum than something Garmin actively participates in.

The forum's full of posts about features that exist but are implemented in an extremely stupid way. The impression I get is that most of the features are designed by engineers, not UI designers or people with a lot of sport knowledge ;)
