Garmin Express & 60CSx

I keep getting pestered to go to the "modern interface, but last time I tried it would not recognize my 60CSx. Can someone tell me if this is still the case? I'd rather not go through the install process just to be rebuffed again.

Also, last time I looked Express provided "sync," i.e., no simple upload. All I want to do is upload my hikes to the Garmin Connect site for sharing etc. I fail to see why I should want to sync, i.e., download to my device as well as upload.

  • I just plugged my 60CSx in, and there doesn't seem to be any way to get a track from it into Garmin Connect Modern except via workarounds. If you set up your 60CSx to store tracks on a data card plugged into the card slot, then you can manually upload the track to Garmin Connect (Activities -> Import) after putting it into USB Mass Storage mode (Setup -> Interface), but that's tedious. You can also use software like LoadMyTracks to get tracks off of internal storage and manually upload, but again that's tedious.

"Sync" doesn't necessarily mean to send stuff to your device. In the case of the 60CSx, though, there's no good way to get tracks to Garmin Connect except by the manual upload workaround. You can't pair it with Garmin Express, which is how Garmin wants you to upload tracks. The 60CSx is simply too old for Garmin to pay any attention to it any more.

Thanks. I'm familiar with the "manual upload" process from the data card because the classic Connect interface would get in a snit once in a while and not do Upload All New Activities so It's good to know it CAN be done with Modern. I don't see a compelling reason to switch so I'll stick with Classic until it stops working or I get a new device.
