Need help combining 2 .fit files

So I got a new Virb Elite, and EVERYTIME I use it, it breaks my ride into pieces and I end up part way through the ride with the distance resetting.

I have tired to use the FIT File Tools, but when I try to apply the combined .fit file to my video in Virb Edit, I get "File does not contain a GPS file with timestamps". I have tried removing the existing .fit from both clips, nothing works.

The result is I have to download my Strava gpx file from my computer and apply that to get it to work.

Can someone look at the 2 original .fit files and tell me what I am doing wrong, in order to get it to merge and apply in Virb Edit? (btw, these files only seem to exist on my virb, they are not downloading to my computer (should they?)

Thanks
Doug

    Hello Doug,

Both files are extremely small. They contain just the date and device info. There is no track data, no trackpoints.

hmmm, those are the .fit files that are on the virb itself, they are in the Garmin>Activity folder, The .GPX files are in the Garmin>GPX folder (see attached screenshot from the mini card in virb)

Do these get combine and saved somewhere when I import them with virb edit? should i perhaps be combining the 2 .gpx files instead of the .fit files?

Should I be looking somewhere on my Mac for a different set of files?

I think I figured out my problem...

These are the wrong .fit and .gpx files. When I imported the files into virb edit, I think I may have pressed the remove files button.

I will redo a longer ride and try again. In the meantime I used the .gpx file from my biking computer.
