Months ago I discovered that Connect was removing elevation data from the exported files and immediately quit saving my rides there.

Lucky for me I always have saved my tracks to my hard drive with Connect being used as a secondary backup.

Connect is no longer any good for that and I have moved on to other types of backup.

are you sure of it ? I've downloaded another activity some weeks ago and it has the elevation data
  • I also do the same as DATEZZ. I save all my activities from my device to my computer. There is no guaranty that what you send to Garmin Connect or any other site, will be able to be exported back to you. They might turn that off completely at their whim.

There have been other post's about this too recently. None with a resolution that I've seen, so I assume Garmin decided not to provide that data in the export. It's no a bother to me as I have my original files. But if it is a concern to you, then you probably should let Garmin know by opening a support issue with Garmin Support and also submitting a Send Ideas to Garmin.

However if the other people that want this don't do the same, it's unlikely Garmin will put much priority on this if any.

Garmin Connect seems to have a lot of "temporary" issues. I quit using it. There are so many other fitness sites out there such as Strava, RidewithGPS, mapMyRide and many others. You can get a free basic account on one or all of them. You may find a premium account worth the fee if you are a serious about fitness or competition.

So your issue might just be temporary.

I've noticed another thing in last months. The same track (GPX file) has now a weight of 5Mb instead 500 kb
The first from Garmin Connect and the second from Garmin device

    Hello Gianrico,

I have downloaded many TCX files recorded in 2014 and older that all had elevations.

Sometime in 2015 the TCX exports (of files recorded in 2015) no longer had elevations??

    No ,
I've downloaded by Garmin Connect a track recorded in march 2015 just now and it has the elevation data

I checked 1 ride from each month in 2015, Jan, Feb, Mar, Apr, May, and all had elevations.

June and July had no elevations.

I will check again in another month to see if June 2015 will magically get elevations and only July, Aug, will have no elevations.
  • I don't think you've mentioned what device you have, but if you have the activity still on your device, there are other options to covert it to a .tcx file. Also, if you are using Garmin Express to send activities to GC, then I believe somewhere on your computer Garmin Express actually save a copy of successful uploads to GC and the same if you are using the old Ant Agent software. However it may be in a hidden folder so if you search for it, then make sure your search includes hidden files and folders.

As to what DATEZZ is telling you, I believe he is correct. There have been plenty of posts previously that support his comments.

I hope it is an issue Garmin will fix soon...
