Bluetooth Issues with Forerunner 225 & Garmin Connect

Anyone else having major frustrations with the new Garmin 225 & Bluetooth Sync?

I can't seem to get any help from any Garmin contact us links on this.

• I have a Samsung Galaxy S5. It finds multiple other Bluetooth devices with ease but it takes me multiple turn-on, turn-off attempts on both devices to find the Forerunner 225.
• If I can get past the first issue above and the phone says it’s connected and the watch say “Status = Connected”, the Garmin Connect App still struggles to connect to the device “Device not found”
• Sometimes the device name on my Phones Bluetooth menu changes from “Forerunner 225” to “nRF51822” which might explain the problem
• Then even if I can eventually get the device recognised on my Garmin Connect app, the sync seems similarly impossible to get going. Not matter what I push it doesn’t seem to force the sync. The only way I’ve managed to get it working at all is to wear the watch to sleep and then sync via the sleep mode activity area.

Obviously a very frustrating experience

got the same issue for 3 weeks.

    Here how i fixed.

I bought the forerunnr 235 in febr and he worked good until get stuck on firmware 4.10 update.
I had to reset the device (master reset) and after that i got the issue of the bluetooth pairing.

With firmware 4.20 and 4.30 same issue.

Yesterday i removed the device from garmin connect app (i ve got an iphone 5) and after that i was able to pair it again without issue.

    Now is working perfectly.

    Cheers

    G.

I bought a Garmin 225 last year, been using it all year. It would always connect to the phone once the GPS locked up until the 2.9 firmware update. I've got a note 4, at&t. It will no longer talk to the phone under any circumstances. I've done factory resets, the whole 9 yards. They just don't talk to each other anymore. I suspect because it failed the update the first time it tried to install 2.9 this is happening but I can't prove it because there is no way to roll back a firmware update. At least not that I can find. This is pretty unacceptable. I spent 300 dollars on this watch only to find they released an updated version 3 months later, now the POS won't even pair with my phone. I'm going to consider other alternative to Garmin next time I buy a watch.
  • steps to fix Bluetooth pairing issues?

I had persistent pairing problems with the FR230. I think they are now fixed - I've had a good 3 days with no issues. Steps taken to resolve:

    - Ensure latest GC Mobile and FR firmware are installed
    - Go into Android bluetooth settings and unpair all devices (e.g. headphones etc)
    - Go into GC Mobile and remove all Garmin devices
    - Go into Android application settings for GC Mobile and clear the cache
    - restart phone and watch
    - Go into GC Mobile and follow the normal steps to pair with the watch.

These seems to have fixed my issues. After a couple of days I re-paired my bluetooth headphones, and continue to monitor.

    Fingers crossed!
  • alas, after pairing up my headphones again I started seeing problems with my FR230 pairing. Or was that just coincidence. Strange that I had 3 good days with no pairing issues.

    Bluetooth Sync Fix (for me)

After a week of struggling to get my FR235 to connect to the mobile app with no success, I finally succeeded.
I had previously been able to get my phone (Galaxy S7) to see the watch from my phone bluetooth menu, but the app would still not connect the device. I unpaired the watch from my phone's bluetooth entirely. Then I used the Garmin App to connect my watch (including adding the 6-digit pin into the Garmin App) and this connected my phone with the watch. Guess I'll have to avoid using my phone's bluetooth menu, and solely use the Garmin app to activate the bluetooth connectivity - silly bug, but I guess if it works...
  • Update on Nov 27, 2017: it's been 4 months since I bought my FR235, and this issue happens quite often(2-3 times per week). I found the solution is quite simple for me. Just restart my iphone 5, enter the garmin app and the bluetooth issue is gone, nothing else is needed.

I am having the same issue. I have FR 235 which just wont connect to the Garmin Connect App.
After reading some online posts, I removed the watch from the Garmin Devices section. Now when I try to pair the watch, it just doesn't work. The 6 digit pairing key flashes on my mobile for a few seconds and then disappears. A new key is flashed after a couple of seconds but vanishes after a couple seconds again. This drama continues till the watch displays an error saying unable to pair - try again. Trying again doesn't help of course.
This has become really frustrating over the last couple of weeks. To the point that I am considering abandoning the watch altogether!
Is anyone else facing similar issues? or does someone has any solution to this issue?

I am using Honor 8 Pro, but do not think that the issue is with the mobile.
  • Pairing worked first time on my previous phone, One Plus X, zero problems.

Trying today on my new phone, Moto G5S Plus and no matter how many times I try any 6 digit code from my forerunner screen, I get the message "Couldn't pair with Forerunner 235 because of an incorrect PIN or passkey" :-( Restarting the phone, toggling bluetooth on/off makes no difference.

Update: my bad, I have a forerunner 35, someone else nearby must have a 235!!
