Bluetooth Issues with Forerunner 225 & Garmin Connect

Anyone else having major frustrations with the new Garmin 225 & Bluetooth Sync?

I can't seem to get any help from any Garmin contact us links on this.

• I have a Samsung Galaxy S5. It finds multiple other Bluetooth devices with ease but it takes me multiple turn-on, turn-off attempts on both devices to find the Forerunner 225.
• If I can get past the first issue above and the phone says it’s connected and the watch say “Status = Connected”, the Garmin Connect App still struggles to connect to the device “Device not found”
• Sometimes the device name on my Phones Bluetooth menu changes from “Forerunner 225” to “nRF51822” which might explain the problem
• Then even if I can eventually get the device recognised on my Garmin Connect app, the sync seems similarly impossible to get going. Not matter what I push it doesn’t seem to force the sync. The only way I’ve managed to get it working at all is to wear the watch to sleep and then sync via the sleep mode activity area.

Obviously a very frustrating experience

    This helped me

Thank you for contacting Garmin International. I would be happy to help you with your Forerunner 225.

I would like to check to see if the Bluetooth on your watch is still turned on.

    How to check your Bluetooth:

    Go to your menu
    Go into settings
    Go into Bluetooth
If it says Status Off, please turn it back on. If you phone is turned on and the application is open your watch and phone should automatically connect. If the status says Waiting to Connect than we will want to repair your device to your phone. If it showing Status Connected than what I would like you to do is remove your device from your mobile application and repair it.

How to un-pair your device from Garmin Connect Mobile

    Open up application
Open the app menu (3 parallel lines in the top left hand corner)
    Select 'Garmin Devices'
Press and hold down on your phone screen where it says Forerunner 225 until a box pops up asking you if you want to remove the device.
    Select 'remove device'
I would then like you to restart your phone, log back into Garmin Connect, and repair your device.

    Android:

Place the Android device within 10 ft. (3 m) of the Forerunner 225.
Ensure that Bluetooth is enabled on the Android device (see Android device manual for details).
On the Android device, open the Garmin Connect Mobile application.
Touch the menu button (≡) located in the upper-left corner.
    Touch 'Garmin Devices'.
Touch '+' in the upper-right corner.
    Touch 'All Devices'.
    Touch 'Forerunner 225'.
Touch the Menu button on the Forerunner 225.
    Select 'Settings'.
    Select 'Bluetooth'.
    Select 'Pair Mobile Device'.
On the Android device, touch 'Search for Device'
Touch 'Yes' after verifying the passkeys match
Touch your choice for Activity Tracking, if prompted
Touch 'Ok' when the devices are paired
You have now successfully paired the Garmin Connect Mobile application with your Forerunner 225, and the device will sync

    Thank you for the answer.

The messagge in the Bluetooth menù is "Waiting to Connect".
I try many times to syncronize, then I try to pair and repair the fr225 to the phone. The only thing that works in the right way is the display of the password on the phone, than I can see only timeout errors.
It happens some times (about one on twenty) that the fr225 is paired to the phone. But after pairing there is no syncronization.
Please, tale note that the fr225 worked well for about 3 weeks using the 2.40 sw version. Then the problem occours and after a couple of days I try to update at 2.60 version but the issue was not fixed.
What is your feeling? A FR225 problem or some phone problem?
    Thank you very much.

Pairing was perfect with my Nexus 5.
A few days ago I bought the Nexus 5X, paired it with the watch and the problem began... :(

BTW: 2.70 update & hard reset did not helped.

    Really frustrating...

UPDATE: Woke up today and tried to pair again, this time it worked!
Tried to turn bluetooth on/off on both devices (also tried to close the app and reopen) and it still reconnects just fine.
Have no clue what happened and why it work all of a sudden.

    an easy way to sync

after a week I've found an easy solution: in addition to BT switch on the gps service... it will pair near instantaneously with the watch. hope this helps.

    Run!

Bluetooth pairing issue with Forerunner 225 and Android or Iphone

    Hello to all,

I have the same problem for re-pairing my forerunner 225 with my Samsung S4. Same issue: good functioning for 10 days, then no more synchronization and the re-pairing doesn't work anymore (waiting for connect). I tried every solution described in this forum: hard reset doesn't work even after several hard reset and restart of the watch and phone. Also pairing with an iPhone doesn't work. An update to Forerunner version 2.90 didn't change anything.

Thank-you in advance for your help on this Garmin issue.
  • Garmin Forerunner 235 Sync Issues

    Hi All,

I have the same issue with my Garmin 235, as well as the rash issue with the strap. I wonder if a new update will resolve this issue?

    Cheers

i have a similar problem. in order to sync, i always need to turn off/turn on my forerunner 225. otherwise despite forerunner bluetooth status shows connected my garmin connect advises me 'not connected'. i only can overcome
this by restarting the forerunner. hope someone can come up with a solution

Yes, my 235 is exactly the same. The bluetooth (on the watch) drops out and I look to see if bluetooth is connected it says 'waiting for app'. A power off/power on is the only thing that sorts this out. Doesn't happen too frequently though, so tolerable.

    Problem solved!

I had the same problem as all of you.

This is the bug (that I hope they will fix soon):
    - you have to have a GPS fix, which means you have to have GPS signal locked on satellites (it turns green and beeps usually). Once you have GPS active and locked, your bluetooth sync will magically work.
    - even if you have to make a full new pairing because you have unpaired due to frustration, trying to solve the issue all by yourself (I did it), it will still work. You will be able to pair with your device, as long as you have a GPS fix.

DEAR GARMIN SUPPORT, PLEASE FIX THIS!!!
I can't believe you allow such a bug??
