Export from Training Center and import to Garmin Connect fails

I am currently trying to export my activities from Garmin Training Center and import them into Garmin Connect. Unfortunately this fails when I do this for an entire year. The .tcx files are around 30-40MB of size and this seems to be a problem.



If I do the export on a monthly basis, it seems to work, but I would not like to do the export/import for each month of the last 7 years.

  • If you are doing this in Modern, switch to Classic and try again. I could never get it working in Modern. I was advised that in order for Modern to work, Express has to active on the PC. I tried it and it still didn't work. Classic always worked for me.
  • If you lumped them all up into one file, that's probably why Garmin Connect doesn't take them. I'm pretty sure Garmin Connect only lets you import activity files. And likely it has to be an individual activity---but maybe not, prove me wrong<grin> I don't mind as I learn when that happens.

    The issue may also be in the fact that just because you have a .tcx, .gpx, or .fit file, it may not actually be an activity file. They can contain other things besides an activity. So be sure exactly what it is you are exporting from Garmin Training Center.

    I've never done an export from Training Center, then imported that to Garmin Connect. But I have taken the original activity files that I save from my edge 500 to my computer, and put them back on my edge 500 and then let Garmin automatically upload them again. I have also taken individual activities and imported them to both the old and the new Garmin Connect with no issue whatsoever.

    If I import then per month (files size much smaller) it works, so I guess this has to do with the file size.
  • Too large...

    And I was right...I quickly launched Fiddler (a web debugger) and the attached file contains the message (Too large)
    The file is a .html file, but I had to rename it to .txt since that file uploader does not allow to attach .html files.
