I thought I had a good idea but was surprised at Garmin Support's reaction.
My unit, like many others, only has one microSD slot. If I run any premium map package like LakeVu HD Ultra or BlueChart g2 Vision I cannot record anything to that card like a screenshot, sonar recording, etc. without removing the premium map card and inserting an additional card.
I suggested that since Garmin has done such neat things like how they uncompress product update software directly to the SD drive on your computer as opposed to making you download it somewhere, then uncompress it, then copy it to the SD drive they should format their premium map cards so that you could record screenshots, sonar recordings, etc. directly to that card which is already in the unit. Is that unrealistic?
Their reaction was almost as if that was something that was totally out of the question. I got the impression that the technical support people have no input into the product improvement process which they certainly should.
Overall, based upon my limited exposure thus far, I am forming the opinion that Garmin is not nearly as up to date as its competition. I don't like being locked into only using Garmin cartography especially in view of the fact that Navionics products seem much more detailed and are a better bang for the buck as well. I can get a Navionics+ chip that will meet all my needs for the entire United States and coastal waters for $199. I have to pay twice that at least for Garmin charts that will not even provide that much coverage.
I might be going back to Humminbird or Raymarine.
