How do others use the calendar and workouts?

Hi.

I've been using a 610 for a couple of years now and just upgraded to a Fenix 3. I've been exploring Garmin Connect in much more detail and wanted to know how others use the calendar and workouts please.

Previously I just used a couple of hill repeat and interval workouts on the 610 and all other times I'd just run without a workout.

Given that the F3 can store workouts from the calendar does anyone put in regular runs as "workouts".

For example, on Sunday I plan to run 12km and up until now I'd just get to Sunday and click start and go out and run 12km. Does anyone put a workout into the calendar of run distance 12km? The problem with this is that there is no auto lap available in a workout which I'm used to being set to 1km. My workaround for this was to have a workout repeating 1km x 12 times to get the laps.

I like the idea of my F3 having all the planned runs on it so I just look in there for what I'm going to be doing on a given day.

Thanks for any comments.
  • I have a 610 and put all my runs as workouts into connect and synchronise them with the watch so that when I switch the watch on it prompts me for the scheduled run. If it is a six mile run I would probably set up a Warmup lap ended by lap key and with no pace alarm then six reps of 1 mile with a pace range set to suit the type of running I am doing followed by a warm down lap ended by the lap key. I've used it this way since getting it a couple of years ago.
