Connect with an XP machine

This is old news, but I can't upload to connect, because I have an XP machine. However, I only want to do that because Strava is no longer supporting direct uploads from XP machines. My accounts for Connect and Strava are linked to each other, so uploading to one gets the data to the other. But now, neither will upload from XP. I came up with a workaround, but that has a problem too.

My plan was to transfer data from my 305 to the old training center, which is still on my PC and then upload the training center files to Strava. I can still upload to training center and I can find the data, but the file format is .tcd and Strava wants tcx.

The end result is that I need a way to convert files from .tcd to.tcx. I did see an old post on this, but could not get to an actual converter.

Any ideas?
  • So what has the issue with xp? I guess it must be Garmin Express as that's the only thing that would be on your computer. Has Garmin confirmed that they don't support XP with Garmin Express?

I still use the old Garmin Communicator plugin to upload to Strava. Though I use Win7. You should be able to do manual imports to just about any site. They are not really that much more trouble, IMO.

    Connect with an XP machine

Seems I have overreacted. I now see that the normal upload to Connect will work and link the data to Strava. It just looks like I can't use Garmin Express on my XP machine.

    Strava sent this:

    Dear Peter,
Over the past year, Garmin has stopped supporting their Communicator plug-in. Many popular browsers (Google Chrome, Mozilla Firefox) have taken steps to disable and eliminate the plug-in framework that the Communicator uses. As a result, the Communicator plug-in has become unreliable and problematic for thousands of Strava athletes.
For this reason, Strava will stop supporting the Garmin Communicator plug-in as an upload method on June 30, 2015. We encourage all Garmin users to link their Garmin Connect and Strava accounts and use Garmin Express for uploading their activities. Learn more.
Alternatively, users of some USB-compatible Garmin devices may still upload their activity files (.fit, .gpx, .tcx) directly.

The plug-in seems to be blocked already for me, maybe because I use Firefox.
  • Should still work with Firefox http://software.garmin.com/en-GB/gcp.html#compatibility

    Click on Downloads and Compatibility

Definitely doesn't work with Chrome but does with IE
